Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation is the first to establish a ‘Sustainability Cell’ aimed at the comprehensive development of the city.

While promoting inclusive development in the city, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has prioritized environmental concerns and included its name among a select list of urban local self-governments in India. The establishment of a ‘Sustainability Cell’ aims to promote comprehensive development, prioritize environmental concerns, and ensure the city's future. Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation is the first to establish such a cell. This initiative aligns with national and international sustainability goals, prioritizing the social, economic, and environmental development of the city, and the ‘Sustainability Cell’ will mark a new chapter in the city’s sustainable development.

Objectives of the 'Sustainability Cell' Complement UN Sustainable Development Goals!

The ‘Sustainability Cell’ has been structured to guide the city’s long-term sustainable development goals, focusing on six key components essential for citizens' quality of life. Each of these six objectives strategically aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The ‘Sustainability Cell’ will collaborate with other departments of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation to establish a responsibility framework for monitoring the initiatives and objectives of sustainable development.

3. Sustainable Urban Areas : Creating green buildings, establishing green public spaces, and providing environmentally-friendly infrastructure in the city.
  
4. Disaster Resilience : Assessing risks related to emergencies and preparing for them, along with creating essential resilient infrastructure to handle emergencies in the city.
  
5. Social Development and Inclusion of All Elements : Prioritizing social development principles in the city’s growth while ensuring gender equality and including community participation in skill development.
  
6. Creating a Sustainable Economy with Priority for New Initiatives : Collaborating for climate forecasting, green bonds, and sustainable funding in the city’s budget.
